The most meaningful engagement sessions happen in places that are unique to your specific story. TJ and Briana’s cozy, minimalist engagement photos in their Bronx apartment are a prime example of what I mean when I say this to my clients. Instead of choosing a traditional location, they decided to have their engagement session at home where real life happens. We were able to tailor their shoot to include personal details, their pet, and pieces of their story. The result was a gallery that felt personal, relaxed, and completely true to who they are as a couple.

One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is that there really aren’t any rules. Some couples dream of a dressed-up session in Manhattan. Others want a scenic outdoor location. Some choose meaningful places like family properties, favorite coffee shops, or the spot where they got engaged.

TJ and Briana wanted a relaxed and casual session that reflected their actual day-to-day life together. And honestly, I couldn’t have imagined a better fit for them. Their apartment had such a cozy, minimalist feel that immediately set the tone for the entire gallery. The space itself became part of the story, showcasing not only where they live but how they spend time together.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I love photographing at-home engagement sessions! They offer a glimpse into the real version of a relationship. Years from now, these images won’t just remind TJ and Briana of what they looked like during their engagement season. They’ll remind them of the home they built together and the life they shared there.

TJ and Briana have the kind of chemistry that makes photographing couples incredibly easy. They’re naturally affectionate, constantly making each other laugh, and completely comfortable being themselves around one another. That comfort shows up in every image.
Some of my favorite moments happened during the simplest parts of the session. TJ and Briana sat together on the kitchen floor as late afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows, curled up on the bed with their dog, and danced around the living room. The natural light throughout their apartment was incredible, especially in the kitchen and bedroom, where it helped shape the mood of the images. Combined with their warm personalities and relaxed approach, everything came together effortlessly because nothing ever felt forced.

One detail I especially loved from our session was the collection of Polaroids they had gathered throughout their relationship. Details like this are what take an engagement season from good to great! I encourage personalizing everything from the location to little pieces like this to really tailor the session to the couple. TJ & Briana worked their photo collection into the session as a small nod to their history together, and I’m so glad they did. Side note: I offer my clients the option of adding Polaroids to their package, which they opted to do. Now, my shots will be added to their collection and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of their ongoing love story!
